Jackie's yoga teachings offer a challenging yet appropriate sequence of postures and movements with strong verbal cues on alignment, proper breathing, and mental focus. Emphasis placed on detailed technical instruction is oriented towards rehabilitating the body and its habitual imbalances, utilizing the yoga practice as therapy. Jackie also possesses a unique ability to incorporate teachings of the Eight Limbs of Yoga and philosophy from the Yoga Sutra of Patanjali into the classes she offers. The result is a balanced combination of physicality and spirituality, bringing harmony and clarity to body and to mind. Jackie's yoga practice, which began in 2005, took her to south India in 2008 to study classical Hatha yoga for five months. In 2009, she earned her 200-hour certification with Yoga Teachers Training Institute and in 2011, Jackie completed her 500-hour teacher training with Yoga Teachers Training Institute. In 2012, she studied over 150 hours with Kino MacGregor and Tim Feldmann learning the Ashtanga Yoga tradition and has accrued dozens more hours of training under Gabriel Halpern of the Iyengar Yoga tradition. In 2015, Jackie is trained to teach prenatal yoga under the guidance of Heather Simonson. Prenatal yoga classes are aimed at providing relief from any discomforts that have come with the childbearing year and preparing oneself with tools for labor, birth, and parenting. Also in 2015, Jackie and her husband, Dhruva, founded North Country Yoga School in Miller Place, where they shared the teachings of yoga for about a year before they closed that location and resumed teaching at other locations. The experienced teachers and rich lineages that have influenced Jackie’s practice can be seen, heard, and felt in her teachings and she uses her knowledge and wisdom to develop intelligent sequences designed specifically for the individual(s) in front of her. For those interested, Jackie prescribes specific work to each individual student that have the capacity to treat pain, discomfort, or imbalance in the body.
